“Congratulations!”

She looked up from her phone at the approaching man. He interrupted her while she was composing a text message; she glanced at her smartphone and noticed a glaring typo at the end of her sent message. She rolled her eyes back up at the man who hadn’t yet completely walked past her.

“Excuse me?” She sucked her teeth; her half smile askew.

The man, who held a paper shopping bag with the logo of a nearby department store printed on it, slowed his gait to a stop. He pointed with his chin to the pastel gift bag the woman held. She instinctively peeked at it its emblazoned message of “It’s A Boy!!” in bright letters surrounded by confetti suspended in mid descent.

“I’m not having a baby,” she said.
